DEFTONES
Hello all- Much has been said, as well as seen, on every media outlet about the events in Paris. Some of us were in attendance at the Le Bataclan, and the rest of our family, just blocks away on this night. We have been to Paris many, many times, and we’ve had some of the most amazing shows in this tremendously electric city. With this being said, and with our deepest condolences, love and respect to everyone affected, and to all of us who share this planet, we must return home to our loved ones. We will return when appropriate. For ticket holders, we will have more information soon, so please hang tight. Until then, please never forget the power of gathering, and one of the most unbelievable feelings of all: that P.M.A. With much love and respect, Deftones

This photo is from 34 weeks ago. The majority of the band had never been to Paris before and honestly probably never thought it would be possible. But music brought us there and our freedom allowed us to travel to France and gave us the privilege to play our songs to entertain a mass of people who gathered inside the confines of the beautiful venue known now Worldwide as Le Bataclan. Less than 24 hrs ago, all has changed, not just in Paris but throughout the world. The dictionary definition of FEAR is: a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc.,whether the threat is real or imagined;the feeling or condition of being afraid. The word CONDITION or CONDITIONED is defined as: characterized by a predictable or consistent pattern of behavior or thought as a result of having been subjected to certain circumstances or conditions. Im not trying to give a English lesson here, but what I am looking to say by this is, DO NOT LET THESE COWARDLY ACTS TAKE AWAY YOUR FREEDOM TO EXPRESS AND LIVE YOUR LIVES. This is a scary and saddening time...but if you allow this Fear to change your cognitive thinking, if you allow these yellow bellied, shit stains to keep you from you enjoying your lives by keeping you away from the activities you enjoy in your life, then you let them really win. Regardless of motives, the people that lost their lives lost them innocently while doing something they have the freedom to do. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO CONDITION YOUR LIVES. STAND UP FOR PARIS STAND UP FOR THE LIVES LOST. I wish so badly that we could be there right now to help bring justice and any sort of peace possible to this beautiful city and their beautiful people. Paris, you will rise from this! #saveparis #nofear

From the #NYTimes... France embodies everything religious zealots everywhere hate: enjoyment of life here on earth in a myriad little ways: a fragrant cup of coffee and buttery croissant in the morning, beautiful women in short dresses smiling freely on the street, the smell of warm bread, a bottle of wine shared with friends, a dab of perfume, children paying in the Luxembourg Gardens, the right not to believe in any god, not to worry about calories, to flirt and smoke and enjoy sex outside of marriage, to take vacations, to read any book you want, to go to school for free, to play, to laugh, to argue, to make fun of prelates and politicians alike, to leave worrying about the afterlife to the dead. No country does life on earth better than the French. Paris, we love you. We cry for you. You are mourning tonight, and we with you. We know you will laugh again, and sing again, and make love, and heal, because loving life is your essence. The forces of darkness will ebb. They will lose. They always do.

I know that there's a lot of posts happening about Paris. Posts about pulling together. I too should be posting a positive symbol of Hope. We often post selfies when we're feeling good about ourselves. So I thought it only fair to post a selfie of when we're not feeling so great. See, I've been thinking for days, trying to find the right image or the right words... But I can't seem to shake off this deep deep sadness. All I can think about are the brothers, wives, girlfriends, best friends, sons and daughters, that were just hanging together having a laugh, a drink, just to hear some music. So simple. So innocent. The last thing on their minds was what was about to happen. Because it should not be happening. I mean, why. Im searching my mind for words of wisdom from all of this, and it's just black. I'm really having trouble wrapping my soul around this one. Having recently played that venue in Paris, it haunts me even more. I can't help it. I just replay it over and over in my head as if I was there. I see the venue, I'm looking out at the balcony from the stage. Imagining it's my friends, Our family, Our fans getting hurt, having their lives meaninglessly taken away from them in a matter of seconds. This is hard for me to shake. I know I'm supposed to be saying positive things, to power on, but I just feel so so sad, I feel helpless. There's nothing more painful than thinking about all those beautiful people who just wanted to go out on a friday night after a hard week's work and just be. Why couldn't they just be. How can other humans be this callous. How can they be this numb. How cold must blood run in your veins to be able to just open fire on your fellow men and women, knowing those specific people have done nothing to you. Im sorry I know this is not about me. But I feel so sorry for all those people. So sorry for your families and the pain that you're all feeling right now. I wish I could help. Wish I could wrap my heart around you and make it all go away.
