Le guitariste Allan Holdsworth est décédé hier dimanche 16 avril, à l'âge de 70 ans, a-t-on appris sur la page de sa fille Louise Holdsworth. Une disparition soudaine et inattendue, comme elle précise, le guitariste se produisait encore sur scène il y a une semaine aux Etats-Unis.
Allan Holdsworth était sans aucun doute l'un des guitaristes les plus inclassables et les plus spectaculaires de son temps, techniquement époustouflant, unique en son genre, pas toujours accessible dans son répertoire, mais il demeure une influence majeure pour grand nombre de musiciens qui lui rendent hommage aujourd'hui.

Malgré une carrière très remplie qui avait débuté en 1969 et permis de jouer avec les plus grandes pointures du jazz fusion et du progressif (SOFT MACHINE, TEMPEST, Jean-Luc Ponty, U.K....), mais aussi du rock et du metal (on se souvient de jams avec Eddie Van Halen qui lui vouait une énorme admiration), une discographie étoffée de 12 albums solo et une notoriété dans le monde entier, la réalité est assez terrible car il était apparemment notoire, mais beaucoup l'ignorent, qu'Allan Holdsworth vivait dans une situation de précarité financière et de dénuement total, comme le rappelle l'un de ses amis dans cette vidéo.
Une collecte de fonds est donc actuellement organisée pour permettre à la famille de faire face aux dépenses liées à ses obsèques.
